I recently had the pleasure of visiting ExtraSpace Storage and working with Elizabeth Esposito, the assistant store manager. The facility itself is nice — it’s fairly new, which is always a plus. However, once the online teaser rate expires, expect to spend at least 100% more for the space you rent. I have a 5x10 on the second floor, and the rate was $32/ mo at the beginning. Once the rate expired, it jumped to $57. Still not bad. Then I received a notification less than a week ago that the rate would jump to $112 at the beginning of November. Incremental increases can and should be expected, but it should never be that dramatic, and multiple increases within a 12 month period is just asinine. Personally, 50 square feet on the second floor of a storage facility should never be that much unless the staff are moving the stuff for you and dusting the contents of each unit. I’ll be moving out at the end of the month.
